Tommorrow’s the day!
State Legion baseball begins for two of our local teams Saturday morning and we know who they’ll be facing.
Alliance and Hickman throw out the first pitch at 9:00 MT in Wayne for the Class B opener. The Spartans are 38-4 and look set-up for a potential big bracket run with a deep pitching rotation of four starters that all boast an ERA below 2.8, and three of those pitchers are 2.0 or under, which is great support for a Spartans offense that is scoring between 8 and 9 runs a game.
KCOW AM 1400 and 92.5 FM will have Saturday morning’s broadcast of the game. Other teams in the tournament include Bennington, McCook, Springfield, Wahoo, Wayne, Lincoln Lutheran and a second Lincoln-based team.
The winner will play Sunday at 3:00 and the loser will face an elimination game Sunday at 9:00.
The Gordon/Rushville Regulators will play Creighton in their State opener tomorrow morning at 10:00 MT in Albion, Nebraska at the Class C tourney. The Regs have won four straight and battled back from the elimination bracket in districts to surprise Bridgeport with a pair of big wins in Tuesday’s Championships.
Gordon/Rushville has a strong three-man starting rotation on the hill that includes Trace Beguin and his 1.71 ERA and 79 strikeouts.
The Regs won 20 games this summer and are led by Morgan Hurlburt at the plate with 43 RBIs and 22 of his hits have gone for extra bases.
The winner moves on to the second round Sunday at 4:00 while the loser faces elimination Sunday at 10:00.
