Two Alliance High School entries were among the purple ribbon winners at the District 12 Future Farmers of American Contest hosted by Chadron State College on Wednesday, Dec. 5.
The Ag Demonstration team made up of Krista Carter, Chase Dye, Roy Kesterson and Ashtyn Shrewsbury earned the second place purple ribbon, qualifying it to compete at the State FFA Convention in April in Lincoln.
Alliance’s demonstration was on artificial insemination of cattle.
Also earning a trip to the state convention as a purple ribbon winner was Amanda Lower in Natural Resources Speaking.
Ashtyn Shrewsbury earned the top blue ribbon and is the first alternate to the state convention in Extemporaneous Speaking.
The Hemingford FFA chapter earned a blue ribbon for its ag demonstration. Also winning a blue from Hemingford was Matt Davis in Junior Public Speaking.
More than 200 students from the 12 FFA chapters in extreme western Nebraska participated in the contests. The State FFA president, Alix Mashino of Spencer, and one of the state vice presidents, Andrew Ambriz of West Point, helped with the contests and awarded the prizes.
