Alliance High School students are getting exposed to college offerings and post-high school life today and tomorrow (Wed/Thursday) at the Western Nebraska Community College campuses in Alliance, Scottsbuff, and Sidney.
Alliance High Principal Dr. Pat Jones says several juniors and seniors are visiting all three campuses today to learn about several program offerings, such as cosmetology, aviation, nursing, auto body/tech and many more.
Five bus loads of Alliance high freshman and sophomores – about 230 students – will visit the Scottsbluff campus on Thursday.
“It is called the ‘Know to Go’ pep rally,” Jones said. “It will offer our kids information about life after high school.
Jones says exposing the students to Western Nebraska Community College is the result of parental and community input from a strategic planning session held last fall at AHS. It was suggested that APS provide transportation for its students to visit nearby college campuses.
“My goal is to have the students get a solid idea as to what college life is all about,” he said. This works hand to hand with the dual credit program we are implementing at AHS with WNCC and others.”
Alliance High Students and hundreds of other teenagers will get a taste of Chadron State College this Friday when CSC hosts its annual Scholastic Day as tests in dozens of academic areas will be given.
