Chadron State College wrestler Brock Thumm went 1-2 on Friday to finish his season in the NCAA Division II Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
“I’m exremely proud of Brock this season,” said coach Brett Hunter. “It’s been a difficult season for this program, and also with Brock’s health. He hung with us and found a way to finish in the top 12 in the country. He’s a great kid that does all the right things, and we’re glad we get another year with him.”
Thumm lost his opening match, 5-3 to Isaiah Royal of Newberry College, putting him into the consolation brackets.
He then scored a first-period pin against Zach Scott of Minnesota State-Moorhead to advance.
Thumm lost a 4-3 decision in his third match, to three-time All-American and No. 2-ranked Nick Crume of the University of Indianapolis, to end his day in the consolations.
With the victory in consolations, Thumm was one of the final 12 in contention at the NCAA tournament.
