Eagle Wrestler Thumm Earns Trip to NCAA Championships

A pair of Chadron State College wrestlers continued their journey through the NCAA West Super Region tournament on Saturday, finding out where they placed among the region’s top grapplers.

Junior 141-pounder Brock Thumm lost an 8-4 decision to Andrew Schulte of California Baptist University to finish in second place and grab the No. 2 seed from the West Super Region in the March 9-10 NCAA Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Junior Rulon Taylor, the Eagles’ heavyweight, dropped a 10-3 decision to Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Cody Johnson, and slipped to 0-2 on the day with a 6-3 loss to Zach Schrader of Cal Baptist. He placed sixth.

Chadron State finished 14th as a team, with 24.0 points. The regional champion, Cal Baptist, scored 114.5, with Nebraska-Kearney nipping at its heels with 111.
