Here are some reminders from the Chadron Police Department about pets left in vehicles.
WHEN LEFT IN A CAR, DOGS CAN DIE IN TEMPERATURES AS LOW AS 80° F.
· A car’s temperature will rise approximately 40° F in an hour, even on a relatively cool day (72° F).
· Most temperatures increase within the first 30 minutes.
· Cracking your windows DOES NOT stop the heat from rising.
· Dogs can succumb to heat stroke, even when the car is in the shade.
· Leaving your air conditioning on DOES NOT guarantee your dog’s safety.
· Leave your dog at home on hot days or find alternative ways to run your errands.
Never leave your pet in a hot car!
