Chadron 10, Bridgeport 2 – SRs
The Chadron Nationals have raced out to a 7-1 record after Wednesday’s five inning 10-2 victory over Bridgeport.
Each team scored twice in the first, then Chadron exploded for five runs in the second inning to take a 7-2 lead with the help of three Bridgeport errors. The Bombers committed seven errors in the game and were limited at the plate by Sean O’Brien who threw all five innings allowing only two runs and two hits.
Chadron hitters Coy Bila, Logan Tiensvold and Jayden Stack all drove in two runs, including a Tiensvold homer.
Chadron is hosting a senior wood bat tournament Saturday and Sunday at Maurice Horse Field. The Nationals will face Sidney at 11:00 and Valentine at 6:00 Saturday, followed by an 11:00 game Sunday morning against Morrill. the tournament championship is Sunday night at 7:00.
Gering 9, Sidney 7 – SRs
A late-inning outburst sent the Gering seniors to a 9-7 win spoiling Sidney’s home opener.
Sidney leaped ahead 7-2 on a combination of base hits, doubles and walks through the first four innings to build the lead before Gering scored twice in the fifth, sixth and three times in the seventh to swipe the win.
Chris Palomo started the rally with a two-run homer in the 5th. Down 7-6 going into the final inning Gering took its first lead on a Sidney throwing error and added one more on a fielder’s choice. Sidney stranded two on base in the bottom of the seventh and Gering earned its third win of the summer.
Dalton Scott started for Gering on the mound and gave up seven runs, six hits and walked seven in his three innings of work before giving way to Mike Gutherless who slammed the door on the Sidney offense with four innings of three-hit ball and no runs coming across.
The teams combined for seven errors, three by Gering and four on the Sidney side.
Gering is at Twin Cities Thursday night.
