Box Butte County RSVP has set up “Trees of Love” at Hardware Hank’s in Alliance and Bank of the West in Hemingford. You are invited to include a nursing home resident in your Christmas gift giving this year by selecting an ornament from the trees with a gift suggestion on it. The tree at Hardware Hank’s will include suggestions for 90 residents at Highland Park and Good Samaritan Care Centers. The tree at Bank of the West in Hemingford will have gift suggestions for 40 residents of Hemingford Community Care Center. Highland Park gifts should be left at Hardware Hank’s by Friday, December 9. Good Samaritan gifts should be left at Hardware Hank’s by Friday, December 16. Hemingford Community Care Center gifts may be taken to the Care Center by Thursday, December 15.
Kids are invited to get ready for the holidays at Friday Fun Days at the Alliance Public Library any time between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Plans include: upcyled craft for a gift today; gift wrap and gift box making December 9 and holiday movies and ornament and snowflake craft project December 16.
The City of Alliance Snow Removal Action Plan is available for viewing on the City webpage. A complete listing of Emergency Snow routes is also available. Please remember when a Snow Emergency is declared, residents living on an Emergency Snow Route are required to remove their vehicles from the street.
The Senior Crafters will be holding a Craft Sale today from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 3 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Senior Center located at 212 Yellowstone!

The Alliance Public Library is having a holiday reading contest! Simply read any book from the library and enter your name in the drawing for a Harry Potter gift basket! The contest is open to all ages and the drawing to select a winner will take place on Friday, December 16!
Anyone wishing to donate items to the Alliance Animal Shelter may drop them off at the shelter Monday through Friday and the Alliance Police Department on the weekends. Please contact Toni at 762-4955 for a list of needed supplies or to add your name to the volunteer list!

A planning meeting for the 2017 Solar Eclipse event will be held Wednesday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center. Alliance native, Julie Ushio will share her 1991 total eclipse experience in Hawaii and will detail a lecture she attended by the lead eclipse researcher who is planning to be in Alliance for the event. An education committee is needed to coordinate speakers and facilities for educational programs. Anyone interested in the educational aspects of the eclipse is encouraged to attend the meeting.
