Beatrice Sells Industrial Park Land for Turkey Hatchery

BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — The city of Beatrice has sold three industrial park parcels to a Canadian company that plans to hatch turkeys there.

City officials approved the $60,000 sale Monday night.

Hybrid Turkeys, of Kitchener, Ontario, announced in June that it hopes to have its $6 million turkey hatchery up and running by July 2017. Hybrid Turkeys is part of Hendrix Genetics, a Netherlands-based company.

Officials say that once the eggs are hatched, the young turkeys are vaccinated and shipped to growing operations around the United States within 24 hours.
