The staff at Big Blue Bay would like to invite any kids entering high school this fall up to age 20 to a “Midnight Swim Party” at the pool on Saturday, August 15! The fun begins at 8:00 p.m. with free food donated from local sponsors followed by a showing of “Jaws” at 9:30 p.m. A free will donation of either two canned food items for the food pantry or a $2.50 donation to the Save the Track Fund in memory of Jason Berglund will be accepted at the door.
Swimming season is coming to a close! Big Blue Bay will close for the year on Sunday, August 16 at 6:00 p.m.
The Alliance Public Library Book Club will meet Tuesday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. in the library’s back room to discuss “The Painted Girls” by Cathy Marie Buchanan. Copies of the book are available at the library’s circulation desk and a postage fee of $3.50 is charged. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Alliance Park Foundation would like to invite you to enjoy dilly bars, kid’s games, sidewalk chalk contests and more at the fountain on Monday, August 17 at 6:00 p.m. A free will donation for the dilly bars will go to the Alliance Park Foundation to help keep our parks beautiful! The event is sponsored by the Park Foundation and Alliance Dairy Queen.
The adult summer reading program will continue until Friday, August 28! Any adult may check out and read a book from the library and then submit an entry to win gas barbeque grill donated by the Friends of the Library.
The Friends of the Library are sponsoring a Husker basket raffle until Friday, September 25! The basket is on display at the Alliance Public Library and raffle tickets are available at the circulation desk.
United Way will be sponsoring its 4th annual Doggie Splash from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 at Big Blue Bay! Bring your canine friend to the pool at 6:00 p.m. to register for the fun! Due to health code guidelines, pet owners will not be allowed in the water with their dogs. No admission fees will be charged, however a free will offering to the United Way will be accepted.
School begins next week and the City of Alliance would like to remind motorists to be aware of the reduced speed of 20 mph in school zones from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
In conjunction with the 70th Anniversary of the End of World War II Commemoration ceremony on August 16 at the Nebraska State Veterans Cemetery at Alliance, the Sallows Military Museum has assembled a special display recognizing the end of World War II. The public is invited to the museum located at 1100 Niobrara Avenue to view the display following the ceremony at the cemetery. The museum will be open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The Knight Museum and Sandhills Center has an extensive collection of photographs from the Alliance Times Herald which include sports, kids and community events that span the last 20 years. The museum staff would like to invite you to stop by and check them out and take some with you!
The Alliance City Council will conduct a regular meeting on Tuesday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board of Education meeting room. Complete agendas and minutes may be found on the City’s website.
Local Alliance Public Library patrons will have access to a new free digital music service beginning August 24! Each patron will have three hours per day of free streaming.
