Major League Baseball has announced the reserves and pitchers for next week’s All-Star game at Cincinnati.
Rockies infielders DJ LeMahieu and Nolan Arenado will be on the NL squad. Catcher Yasmani Grandal, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and Joc Pederson will represent the NL West-leading Dodgers off the bench, while Giants infielders Joe Panik and Brandon Crawford have been selected as reserves. Cubs infielders Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have been added to the NL squad.
The rest of the NL reserves are Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock and Padres outfielder Justin Upton.
Nationals ace Max Scherzer joins an NL staff that includes Gerrit Cole, A.J. Burnett and Mark Melancon of the Pirates, along with Trevor Rosenthal and Michael Wacha of the Cardinals. Also selected are Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, Reds closer Aroldis Chapman, reigning NL Rookie of the Year Jacob de Grom and Dodgers standout Zack Greinke. Atlanta’s Shelby Miller also made the staff, as did Jonathan Papelbon of the Phillies and Milwaukee’s Francisco Rodriguez.
The American League pitching staff includes Rays standouts Chris Archer and Brad Boxberger, relievers Zach Britton and Darren O’Day of the Orioles and Kansas City’s Wade Davis and Kelvin Herrera. Oakland’s Sonny Gray, Seattle’s Felix Hernandez, Detroit’s David Price and Chris Sale of the White Sox were selected for the game, as were Yankees reliever Dellin Betances, Astros starter Dallas Keuchel and Twins closer Glen Perkins.
The AL reserves include Toronto catcher Russell Martin and Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista. The Tigers will send shortstop Jose Iglesias and outfielder J.D. Martinez to Cincinnati, while third baseman Manny Machado and outfielder Adam Jones will represent the Orioles. Also named as AL reserves are A’s catcher Stephen Vogt, Angels first baseman Albert Pujols, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, utilityman Brock Holt of the Red Sox, Rangers designated hitter Prince Fielder and Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis.
