Gering Fire Fighters responded to a fuel tank fire earlier this morning in the area of 7th Street, and Country Club Road in Gering. According to Gering Fire Chief Jay Templar his crews were called around 7:30am to a report of two fuel tanks on fire. According to Chief Templar there were no flames, a lot of smoke, and Templar was not sure how the fire started.
Templar says they are waiting for the State Fire Marshall to come and investigate before they can operate the services again. He says the explosion could be a vapor-related but he’s not sure. There wasn’t any fuel on the ground, but it could have spilled in the trench or in the vault.
