CSC’s Simpson Earns Conference’s Weekly Field Honor

Chadron State College long jumper Damarcus Simpson earned the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week the conference announced Wednesday.

Simpson, a freshman from Lafayette, Georgia, broke the men’s outdoor long jump record with a leap of 25-feet, 1-inches. Simpson won the event by more than two feet at Colorado State University, automatically qualifying for the national meet in the process. Simpson also placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.69 seconds.

Simpson was named the RMAC Indoor Athlete of the Year as well as the RMAC Freshman of the Year after breaking the RMAC record in the long jump with his school record leap of 25-feet, 4-inches at the indoor conference meet. The freshman will be looking to defend his title at the outdoor conference meet this weekend at CSU-Pueblo.
