A hands-on, livestock quality assurance training for all youth will be held in conjunction with the Chadron and Crawford After School Programs.
In Chadron, the training will be Tuesday, April 21 and Wednesday, April 22 at the Middle School from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.
In Crawford, the planned dates are Monday, April 20 and Thursday, April 23from 3:30 to 5:00 pm at the Multi-Purpose Room. Extension Educator Jenny Nixon will be the instructor for all programs.
Youth will learn about major areas of proper animal care including daily feed and management, disease prevention, proper handling, carcass quality, and medication administration.
Livestock QA is a requirement for all Nebraska 4-H youth, ages 8-18, who are enrolled in beef, dairy cattle, dairy goat, meat goat, poultry, rabbit, sheep, and swine. Dawes County 4-H members, ages 8-10, or those new to the livestock projects who attend two sessions, will fulfill the QA requirement.
