(Scottsbluff, NE)- Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Troop E conducted four night time, early morning vehicle check point operations from Wednesday April, 8th to Saturday April 11th, 2015, in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska. The checkpoints held in Scottsbluff, began in the late evening hours and continued into the early morning hours.
The enforcement initiative was paid for in part by a $4,400 grant from Region 1 Panhandle Prevention Coalition for state troopers to conduct late evening and early morning vehicle check point operations.
A total of 24 drivers were contacted resulting in one arrest for DUI, five citations for open alcohol containers, two citations for drug paraphernalia, two citations for possession of less than one ounce of Marijuana, two citations for failing to wear seatbelts and one arrest for driving on a suspended license. Eleven additional violations were discovered for various equipment and driver violations.
Further night time vehicle check point operations are planned throughout the year in the Panhandle. Motorists are reminded to obey the posted speed limit, always wear their seat belt, never drive impaired, and to allow plenty of time to reach their destination. The Nebraska State Patrol is committed to the safety of the motoring public and encourages all drivers to voluntarily comply with traffic safety laws.
