The annual Chadron State College Hoop Shoot youth basketball tournament drew record or near-record numbers of teams over the week as 60 teams and more than 600 players and coaches took part.
The hoop shoot was started by volunteers as a memorial fundraiser and continued as such for many years before the CSC basketball programs stepped 5 years ago to keep it going. It’s now their biggest annual fundraiser.
CSC women’s coach and Hoop Shoop coordinator Tim Connealy says it was “another great weekend of basketball,” adding that he had “a lot of fun seeing everyone’s reaction when they came into the Chicoine Center (Chadron State’s new $17 million gymnasium).”
Connealy also says he and men’s coach Brent Bargen couldn’t hold the Hoop Shoot without the “tremendous” support of the college and community, with a lot of people putting in extra time and effort.
There were 9 age divisions this year, 5 for the boys and 4 for the girls. The results of the championship games follow.
