BEYONCE/JAY-Z TO DO HBO SPECIAL
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Won’t be able to catch Beyonce and Jay Z during their “On the Run Tour?” Not to worry — you’ll be able to see a version of it on TV. HBO says it has booked the married couple in an upcoming music special. It will show the Paris edition of their performance. The special will air in September.
QUEEN LATIFAH TO DO TV MOVIE
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Queen Latifah will be starring in a TV movie about Bessie Smith. HBO has signed her on to play the blues legend in a movie for the network. The film will also star Mo’Nique and Oliver Platt. It will air in 2015.
LINDA PERRY, THE ANTI-IDOL
LOS ANGELES (AP) — No “Idol” worship for Linda Perry — at least when the idols in question are “American Idol,” ”The Voice” — and other similar music contest TV shows. The singer-producer says what’s missing from those shows — are stars. Not the ones at the judges’ table, but the development of stars. She says shows like Idol aren’t productive for artists, but the judges do get paid well. She says she’d like to see people on such shows develop their own personas and have “a little self-discovery” of who they are. As you might have guessed by now, Perry is doing her own talent search show. It’s titled “Make Or Break: The Linda Perry Project” — and makes its premiere on July 16 on VH1.
