38th ANNUAL FUR TRADE DAYS CELEBRATION GETTING UNDERWAY IN CHADRON

Fur Trade Days logoChadron’s 38th annual Fur Trade Days Celebration gets underway today with the opening of the Buckskinners Primitive Rendezvous Camp about 12 miles southeast of Chadron off Bordeau Road.

Camp Coordinator Norm Martin says Saturday is the best day to visit, partly because of the competitions out there and partly because that’s when free shuttle rides are offered from downtown Chadron.

There are two activities…both walks….that get started at 5:00. One is of Chadron’s officially-designated Downtown Historic Business District. It’s free, self-guided, and begins by picking up a brochure at the  Blaine Hotel or 1st National Bank of Chadron

Participants will learn of the many historic structures which tell the story of how Chadron came to be and how it has grown and changed throughout the years. A various buildings will be actors portraying some of the town’s prominent characters of years ago.

Beginning at the Chadron Public Library and offering a unique take on the library and the city will a tour of Chadron’s Most Haunted Places….led by nationally-known ghost hunter Richard Dabney. Dabney will lead a similar second tour Sunday afternoon at 5:00.
