DRIVER PLEADS GUILTY IN FATAL BICYCLE CRASH

gavel-moreOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A 82-year-woman has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in connection with a March crash that killed a bicyclist.

KETV reports Ruth Jeffers pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge on Wednesday. Authorities say Jeffers swerved across a traffic lane in March and struck 56-year-old Jim Johnston. He later died at a hospital. Prosecutors say Jeffers swerved to avoid a stopped car in front of her.

Jeffers faces up to one year in jail or up to two years of probation when she’s sentenced in August.
