Lake McConaughy, which has seen some of its highest and lowest levels ever in the past decade, may have topped out this year at less than 60% of capacity.
Engineer Cory Steinke of the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, which runs the lake and Kingsley Dam, told the North Platte Telegraph that the spring peak may have come Sunday when the lake measured 3,239 feet in elevation.
The level dropped more than a foot by Tuesday, reaching 59.4% of capacity with inflows measuring about 53% of normal at 514 cps…down 36 cfs from Monday.
Steinke says several factors could figure into the inflow decline, including the continuing drought and upstream development.
