CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Cheyenne Animal Control officers have taken 53 dogs from a woman who was transporting the dogs in a trailer.

Debbie Lee, of Cheyenne Animal Control, says the local law allows a person to have up to four pets. Lee tells the Wyoming Tribune Eagle that that the woman had a total of 57 dogs, so they allowed her to keep four.

Animal Control says the overall health of a number of the dogs was poor.

Court records indicate that the woman involved has a lengthy history of charges related to animal welfare, mostly in California. Bob Fecht, of the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, says shelter was caring for the dogs for now.
