There will be a recount in the race for Box Butte County Commissioner.
County Clerk Judy Messersmith says the canvassing board will meet Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 9 a.m.
Following Thursday’s counting of provisional and absentee ballots, Doug Hashman of Berea led Marv Toedtli of Alliance by 20 votes. She says the automatic recount will take place because the margin of difference between Hashman and Toedtli is less than 1 percent.
Messersmith says the recount will cost the county roughly $200.
The race for third place in the Alliance School Board is now official.
Messersmith says between the Box Butte County vote and the votes counted in Morrill and Sheridan Counties from voters who have property in the Alliance School District, Deb Grothen-Wegehoft defeated incumbent Troy Schnell by 69 votes.
Grothen-Wegehoft will officially become a member of the school board on January 7.
