ALLIANCE SALUTE TO VETERANS INCLUDES PARADE, PROGRAM

Several activities are taking place in Alliance this weekend in honor of Veterans.

A patriotic sing-along was held Thursday night at the public library.

Friday morning at 8:30, the Alliance St. Agnes Academy will hold its annual salute to veterans program in the parish center gym.   The event will include several photographs of area veterans and those currently serving in the military.

Several Alliance businesses are offering discounts to veterans who shop their stores this weekend.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, activities include free coffee and donuts for parade participants at 8 a.m. at the American Legion.

The Salute to Veterans parade will be held on Box Butte Avenue from 10th Street to 4th Street.

Purple Heart Recipients of Box Butte County have agreed to lead the parade, which will include the Alliance Middle School Band.

Major Jeremy Schaad of the Wyoming Air National Guard has volunteered for the Veterans Day parade Flyover. At approximately 10:00 AM a C 130 Hercules Aircraft will do a high speed fly over at 1000 feet. The aircraft will turn, and pass the parade again, this time a low level, low speed fly over.

1991 Alliance High graduate,  Brian Moomey, a Senior Master Sergeant of the
Wyoming Air National Guard, will be the crew chief on board during the fly over. Brian was in the Air Force and has over 20 year.  His father, Brad, is a Navy Vietnam  War Veteran.

A Marine Corps birthday party will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the VFW Hall.  A dinner consisting of steak or shrimp will be served.  You must contact Dr. Cork Taylor at 762-6240 or Cap Brixius at 762-3645 with the number of people in your party attending.

The annual Alliance Salute to Veterans’ program will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m. at the performing arts center.

Guest speakers will include Box Butte County Veterans’ Service Officer Pete Mortaro, Mayor Fred Feldges, Congressman Adrian Smith, Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs Director John Hilgert, Workforce Coordinator for Veterans Jobs Gary Morgan, and Box Butte County Soldiers Support Group member Lori Rowley.

Patriotic music will be provided by the Alliance High School Band.

A Veterans Day dinner will be held at the Alliance American Legion Sunday at 6 p.m.  Meat and potatoes will be provided.  Please bring your own table service and a salad or dessert.  The dinner is open to all veterans and their family members.
