RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Sentencing has been postponed for a Colorado man who pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for the death of a 2-year-old girl.
Twenty-four-year-old Edward Berges was scheduled to be sentenced on Friday in Rapid City. KOTA-TV reports that the proceedings have been delayed because a presentence investigation is not complete.
The incident happened last August. Berges allegedly told authorities he became frustrated with the child and punched her in the head.
Investigators have said Berges was the boyfriend of the girl’s mother.
Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 37 years in prison.
