4th of July events at Crawford get an early start with the White River 5K run/walk from Fort Robinson State Park to the Crawford City Park. Registration begins at 7:00 and the runners leave from the Post Playhouse at 7:30. The Crawford High School gym will be open for runners to shower between 8:30 and 9:30.
The Chadron/Crawford Boy Scout Troop 302 will host a fundraising breakfast from 7:00-10:30 a.m. at the Crawford Community Center. Tickets are available at the door, $5 per person and kids under 3 eat free.
The annual Crawford 4th of July Parade begins at 10:00 with the theme “Burnt, But Not Broken”…a reference to last summer’s massive wildfires in the region. The Grand Marshals are the memberss of the Crawford Volunteer and Rural Fire Department. Honorary Grand Marshals are everyone who helped the fires.
Those planning to be in the parade and wanting to be judged are asked to line up by 8:45; all other participants need to come to the Community Building by 9:00 to get directions to their place in the parade. All entries need to bring 6 cards describing their float or entry for use by the announcers.
After the parade, there’s family fun and entertainment for all ages from noon till 5 in the city park with food, vendors, novelities, crafts, and live music with Victory Underground.
The Highway 20 Tractor Club will have a Tractor Pull at the Gun Club area west of the Sale Barn. Weigh-ins are at 1:00 p.m., and the pull begins at 2:00 p.m. Trophies will be awarded, and everyone is invited.
Wrapping up Crawford’s 4th of July celebration will be the final session of the 67th annual Old West Trail PRCA Rodeo at 8 pm at the Rodeo Arena, followed by the annual free fireworks display.
