The Nebraska Cattlemen wants to return the slogan “The Beef State” to some state license plates. All state plates carried the slogan from 1956 to 1965.
Cattlemen communications director Ashley Nunnenkamp says since this year marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of the NC’s predecessor, its leaders thought this “was a great time to release specialty plates to promote our state and our industry.”
State rules say at least 500 applications for “The Beef State” plates must be submitted to the Nebraska Motor Vehicles Department before the new plates will be produced. NC officials say that number shouldn’t be a problem, given their membership of 3,000 and the slogan’s history.
The Nebraska Cattlemen and Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation boards have been working together on the proposal, including conducting an online vote on 3 possible license plate designs. The voting ends today on the NC website http://www.nebraskacattlemen.org.
