Oglala Sioux Tribe President Bryan Brewer was arrested Monday morning during a protest outside a liquor store in Whiteclay, but not for anything related to the protest.
Instead, Deputy Sheridan County Attorney Jamian Simmons says it was on a warrant from last year for a $191 insufficient funds check written to a veterinary clinic.
Simmons says President Brewer was taken to Rushville, where he paid the amount of the check and a $10 fee, then was released with the charges to be dismissed.
As for the Whiteclay protest, Oglala activist Olowan Martinez says more than 50 protesters had gathered outside the Arrowhead Inn to prevent a beer distributors from making a delivery. Details of the protest have not been released.
Vandalism during earlier protests have led the Nebraska State Patrol and the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office to have officers on-hand during deliveries.
