NWS LISTS JUNE 11 DAWES COUNTY TORNADO AS F1

tornado damage - dawes coThe National Weather Service office in Cheyenne has officially listed last Tuesday’s tornado that touched down in Dawes County about 19 miles southwest of Chadron as an EF-1 on the enhanced Fujita scale, with maximum winds of 110 mph.

A NWS storm survey team conducted a damage assessment last Thursday and determine the twister covered about a mile on the ground…skipping up several times…with a maximum width of around 40 yards.

The survey team says the tornado touched down at 8:31 p.m., initially snapping trees and telephone poles before damaging several structures along its path to the east.

16 or more structures were damaged with at least 8 outbuildings destroyed and two horse trailers thrown several hundred feet. There were no injuries or fatalities.
