CHANCES LOOK GOOD FOR CSC TO PUT 2 IN GOAT-TYING FINALS AT CNFR

The preliminaries of the 2013 College National Finals Rodeo wrap up tonight in Casper with the final 12 competitors in event having their 3rd go-round. The top 12 in average at the end of the night advance to tomorrow’s finals or short go-round.

Chadron State College senior Amy Tierney will almost certain be in the goat-tying finals tomorrow at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper. Only the top 12 in average at the end of the 3 preliminary rounds make it, and Tierney currently sits 3rd.

Tierney, who earned an automatic spot in the CNFR as the student member of the college rodeo regional board, posted the 3rd-fastest time so far in the 3rd go-round last night, wrapping up her goat in 6.4 seconds. That puts her at 19.5 with one final group of 12 to go.

Tierney’s teammate Shelby Winchell, 3rd in goat-tying last year while at Eastern Wyoming College, has her 3rd go-round tonight and is in great chance to join her in the finals, sitting

That’s a sharp contrast to how the CNFR went for the junior in breakaway roping, where took a no-score in all 3 rounds including last night’s 3rd go-round.

Also last night, defending breakaway champion Joey Painter of Black Hills State finally scored in her last chance in the event, but with the slowest score of the 3rd round.

Painter has her final go-round in goat-tying tonight, but is out of contention after posting a no-score in the opening round.

EWC’s Troy Wilcox had a 12.8 second run in steer wrestling last night and jumped from 17th to 7th with a 3-round 31.5.

He’s in great shape to reach the finals because only 8 of the 33 steer wrestlers to finish so far took down all 3 of their animals, 3 of tonight’s 12 competitors already have a no-score round, and a fourth already has a slower total time.

The EWC team roping duo of Derek Weinreis and Levi O’Keeffe go tonight and also have a great

chance of reaching the finals as they sat 2nd after two rounds.

Chandler Markel of Scottsbluff and the University of Wyoming had a 14.31 in barrel racing last night, but won’t make the short go-round as she’s currently 23rd.

BHSU barrel racer Lindsey Goulet has her 3rd run tonight, but would need to beat the best time so far by more than 5-seconds just to have a shot at making the finals.

Things look good for steer wrestler David Hinman of Hay Springs and Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo, who was tied for 1st after the opening round but next-to-last among the 31 competitors who took down their steers in the 2nd round.

Only 8 men have scored in all 3 rounds so far and 5 of the other 11 in Hindman’s 3rd go-round pool tonight already have one no-score. A time of 15.6…which would be slower than all but 4 so far at the CNFR…would clinch him a spot in the finals.
