The 3rd round at the 2013 College National Finals Rodeo continues tonight in Casper. Last night, the Eastern Wyoming College team roping duo of Troy Wilcox and Cotey Hanson had a chance to clinch a spot in Saturday’s finals, but instead were eliminated from contention.

They started the night in 4th place, but couldn’t get their cow roped and took a no-score. 13 teams have already roped all 3 of their animals, making it impossible for Hanson and Wilcox to reach the finals.

Wilcox also qualified this year in tie-down roping…where he finished out of the money Tuesday night…and steer wrestling, where he’s 18th going into his 3rd go-round tonight.

Another EWC team roping duo…Derek Weinreis and Levi O’Keeffe…was 2nd after 2 rounds and will have their 3rd round on Friday.

Chadron State senior Amy Tierney has her 3rd go-round in goat-tying tonight. She’s currently tied for 7th while teammate Shelby Winchell is tied for 3rd and has her last preliminary round tomorrow. Winchell has her 3rd round in breakaway roping tonight, but missed her animals in both of the first 2 rounds.

Joey Painter of Black Hills State…the defending breakaway roping champion…also has her 3rd go-round tonight after missing her first two animals. Painter will, like Winchell, also be in goat-tying tomorrow night, but is already out of the money with one no-score and one next-to-last score.

Two barrel racers of regional interest…Lindsey Goulet of BHSU and Scottsbluff native Chandler Markel of Wyoming…have their 3rd go-rounds tonight. Markel was 32nd after two rounds and Goulet 30th.
