COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Darius Rucker isn’t just an honorary doctor of music. He’s been declared “Dr. Gamecock.” That’s the name University of South Carolina president Harris Pastides bestowed on Rucker when Rucker was given the doctorate at Saturday’s commencement.

The State of Columbia newspaper reports Rucker told the graduates to “find something that makes you want to give ’til it hurts.” Rucker co-founded Hootie and the Blowfish while a student at USC.
