A rural Alliance boy and his family are the winners of a new Camaro.
Jacob Krause, an 8th grader at the Alliance Middle School, had his duck come across the finish line first Saturday at the 2012 United Way of Western Nebraska Duck Dash.
The car was donated by Team Chevrolet and Target.
The 13-year-old was present at the event Saturday along with his older brother and says the car “is not touching a dirt road.”
Krause’s parents, Jennifer and Ray Krause, claimed the car Monday morning, according to United Way Executive Director Steph Black.
Krause says his favorite subject in school is algebra. He is involved in 4-H, Teammates, and is the AMS student council treasurer.
For the first time in the 16 years of the Duck Dash, the local United Way sold 20,000 ducks, which Special Events Chair Jeana Allen says was “a goal the organization had set years ago.” Allen said she couldn’t be happier, adding it was a tribute to the community’s support of the event.
Allen says the Platte River was higher than expected Saturday, noting some water was added this past week by the managers of the river and it was not shut off. She said they did the best they could catching the ducks in the fast-moving water, but lost some ducks when their backup net broke.
