Chadron State senior volleyball standout Mollie Jones is the winner of this year’s Clyde Bond Memorial Award, created to honor Bond…who died in an accident while attending seminary in 1981.
The award, first given later that year, goes annually to a CSC junior or senior who exemplifies the leadership skills, character and athletic abilities displayed by Clyde Bond during his four years at Chadron State.
Jones, from Longmont, Colo., was presented with the Bond Award Friday during the school’s annual Ivy Day recognition ceremony.
She was a four year starter at outside hitter for the Chadron State volleyball team, getting 214 kills and 284 digs as a senior. Jones played in 105 matches, among the highest in school history, scored over 800 points in her career, and is one of a handful of Eagles who had over 700 kills and 800 digs.
She was also outstanding in the classroom: a 2-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic selection who last fall was named to the 2012 Capital One All-Academic District Six First Team.
Jones was also president of the Legal Studies Club and a member of SAAC…the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She graduated Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in legal studies and is pursuing a graduate degree in sports management.
There are now 35 recipients of the Clyde Bond Award.
