WOMAN BELIEVED TO BE OLDEST NEBRASKAN DIES

Albion NEALBION, Neb. (AP) — A woman believed to have been Nebraska’s oldest resident has died at the age of 112.

Alice Packard with Levander Funeral Home in Albion said Thursday that Mabel Steiner Ragan died Tuesday at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.

Ragan’s nephew Russ Nore, of Albion, said Ragan “was a grand lady” who worked into her 80s at the city library, then volunteered. Until her mid-90s she managed a three-unit apartment house where she was living.

Researcher E.A. Kral, working with the Nebraska Nursing Facility Association and Nebraska Assisted Living Association, says the oldest Nebraska now is believed to be 108-year-old Emily Bouc, of Wahoo.
