SNOW WORK DANGEROUS FOR TOW TRUCK DRIVER

Snowy Road

SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — A spring snowstorm that has forced closure of several highways in the Nebraska Panhandle also made work especially hazardous for a tow truck driver who specializes in helping semitrailers.

Gaylen Fix, of Tow-Aul Recovery in Scottsbluff, said he had to stop working around 2 a.m. Tuesday after helping big rigs return to the slippery roadways. Fix says “it was so cold and dark you couldn’t see where you were going.”

Interstate 80 remains closed west of Sidney. Portions of north-south Nebraska Highway 71 are closed, as are sections of U.S. Highway 385. A 20-mile portion of U.S. Highway 20 is closed east of Chadron.

The National Weather Service says the storm will dump up to a foot of snow in the Panhandle through Tuesday.
