HELENA, Montana (AP) — Three former Blackfeet tribal leaders have pleaded guilty to charges that they held illegal big-game hunts for a trio of country music artists.

The leaders admitted they set up four hunts between 2010 and 2011 in exchange for free shows by Josh Thompson, Justin Moore and Mark Cooke — among others.

The leaders also admit failing to get proper licenses for the hunters and to using tribal funds and workers to help out with the hunt.

The hunts were features on a TV show called “Sovereign Sportsman.” While the tribal leaders say they were trying to raise the profile of the reservation and boost its economy, federal prosecutors say what they did amounts to an illegal sale of tribal wildlife.
