A request to the city of Chadron for a preliminary plat of the former S&S-Bomgaars property has finally publicly revealed that the Hibbett sporting goods chain is coming to Chadron.

When Bomgaars announced last fall that it was moving across 6th Street into the former Pamida-Eisenbarth building, the company said it was selling the old site but couldn’t identify the buyer…only that it would be a type of business Chadron lacks.

The preliminary plat splits the property, with Hibbett Sports to build a new 5,000-square foot store on the western side of the property and Morford’s Decorating Center moving from downtown into the existing building.

The property has had two entrances off 6th Street…one near the southwest corner of the lot and the other near the southeast corner, but the Hibbett-Morford’s plan would have a larger single entrance pretty much in the middle of the 6th Street frontage.

Hibbett Sporting Goods is a national chain based in Birmingham, Alabama, and focusing on small to mid-sized markets. It has over 800 stores in 26 states with 6 in Nebraska, including one in Scottsbluff. The stores handle athletic footwear, apparel and team athletic equipment.
