HUNT FINISHES 10TH AT USA INDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cody Hunt-2Chadron State College senior Cody Hunt finished 10th among the 12 entries in the shot put at the USA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque on Sunday. Hunt threw the 16-pound ball 57-4 ¼ on his first attempt and fouled on his next two throws.

The event was won by Ryan Whiting with a mark of 71-6 ¼. Whiting was a six-time NCAA national champion while attending Arizona State. He is now sponsored by Nike.

Whiting’s winning throw was just 1 ¼ inches shy of the meet record that is held by John Godina, a native of Cheyenne who is a three-time world champion and has won two Olympic medals in the shot.

Hunt concluded his collegiate eligibility indoors last year and qualified for the USA Championships when he threw 59-5 ¼ at the Black Hills Open Meet in December while competing unattached.

He still has one season of college eligibility outdoors, and will be throwing for the Eagles starting later this month. beginning in late March. A graduate of Wyoming’s Lingle-Fort Laramie High School, Hunt has earned NCAA Division II All-American honors indoor twice and outdoors once.

Hunt set the Chadron State shot put record both indoors and outdoors last year at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships, winning each time at 61-4 ¼ indoors and 63-4 ¾ outdoors
