BORGER, Texas — Bianca Duran picked up two pitching wins, including another no-hitter as the Western Nebraska Community College softball team registered two wins over Frank Phillips College Saturday afternoon.

Duran tossed her second straight no-hitter in game one as the sophomore from Westminster, Colo., struck out two in the 9-0 win. Duran also picked up the win in game two with the Cougars pounding out 15 hits in the 10-1 win.

It was the Cougars sixth straight win to push their record to 13-2.

Like Friday in the two wins against Lamar, Saturday’s win was highlighted by 21 hits, including three home runs, two from freshman Jennifer Cottle and one from Duran.

In the first game, WNCC scored six runs in the second inning on just two hits. Danielle Hearn had a run-scoring single and Duran scored two runs on her 2-out double for the 6-0 lead.

WNCC added two more runs in the third. Cottle led off with a solo home run to dead centerfield before Hearn blasted a run-scoring double for the 8-0 lead. The last run came in the fifth as Kayla Romey singled to score Hailee Mecham.

The Cougars managed just six hits in the contest. Hearn was the only Cougar with more than one hit, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Lindsey Shiels-Brophy and Mecham each scored two runs. Mecham earned three walks in the contest.

WNCC hit the ball with more authority in the second game, finishing with 15 hits. WNCC wasted little time in cranking up the offense. Angel Council started things with a single and then Duran blasted a homer to left field for a 2-0 lead. WNCC added two runs in the second with Council singling in Romey for one run.

The Cougars put the game away in the fourth inning, plating six runs on eight hits. After two straight singles by Romey and Council, Duran had a run-scoring double. WNCC kept excelling as Kasey Cash singled before Cottle had a 2-run home run.

The Cougars weren’t through as Shiels-Brophy doubled and scored on a Mecham single for the 10-0 lead.

Frank Phillips only run came in the fifth inning. Duran was controlling the Frank Phillips bats, having a perfect game going until the top of the fourth when she gave up her first in 13 innings. Duran went 4 2/3 innings, giving up two walks and one hits. Mecham finished off the game facing two batters.

Four Cougars finished with multiple hits. Duran led the way with a 3-for-4 game with a double, home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Also collecting multiple hits was Romey with three singles and two runs scored; Council with three singles, two RBIs, and two runs scored; and Kasey Cash with two singles and a run scored.

WNCC, 13-2, will stay in Borger, Texas, as they face Western Texas College on Sunday.
