HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — Police in central Nebraska say a 58-year-old man shot his ex-wife several times earlier this week before barricading himself in his house and eventually taking his own life.
The Hastings Tribune reports that police found 58-year-old David Langenberg’s ex-wife Wednesday night in her Hastings home with several gunshot wounds. She was flown to a Lincoln hospital in critical condition. Police and Nebraska State Patrol troopers then went to Langenberg’s nearby home, where he spoke to police by phone but refused to come out. Police say after four hours, Langenberg emerged from his house around 12:30 a.m. Thursday with a gun and shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say they had been called to Langenberg’s home before and that his ex-wife had received a protection order on June 4 to keep him from contacting her or going to workplace. Their divorce was finalized last year.
