UCCS’ Pearson leads Mountain Lions over Eagles with another three-point barrage

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs outscored Chadron State’s women’s basketball team 25-8 in the first quarter in route to winning 80-45 Saturday night.

“Our focus coming into the night was defense and we didn’t do as well as we wanted to tonight,” Head Coach Janet Raymer said.

The Mountain Lions led from start to finish and held the Eagle offense to 27 percent from the field, making 15 of their 55 shots. UCCS made 30 of their 65 field goal attempts for 46 percent.

Chadron State was out rebounded 46 to 35 in the loss and committed 13 turnovers, the lowest since January 18.

CSC scored six points off nine Mountain Lion turnovers while UCCS converted the Eagles 13 turnovers into 10 points.

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs made 10 shots from behind the arc on 25 attempts and 10 free-throws on 17 shots. Chadron State hit two shots from behind on the arc, on nine attempts and 13 of 18 shots from the charity stripe.

Chelsea Pearson had a game high 21 points for the Mountain Lions. Jae Ferrin finished with 18 points on nine of 13 shooting and Madi Gailber had 13 points and a game high eight rebounds.

Taryn Foxen led Chadron State with 18 points, seven coming from the charity stripe. Jori Peters finished with 14 points. Foxen and Peters both had a team high four rebounds.

The loss drops CSC to 4-19 overall and 3-14 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. UCCS improves to 12-11 overall and 11-6 in the conference.

Chadron State returns home for senior weekend as they face South Dakota School of mines on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
