Chadron State College wrestlers won a majority of the matches they contested, but lost the dual meet versus Colorado Mesa University 22-15 in Rushville Thursday evening. The Eagles fell to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action, while the Mavericks improved to 5-5 picking up their first conference win to run their league record to 1-2.
The forfeit at 125 pounds put CSC in a 6-0 hole it was unable to overcome with five wins by decision and only four losses the rest of the way. However, CMU garnered technical falls at 174 pounds and 184 pounds to put the contest out of reach at that point.
Chadron State got its first win by 6-1 at 133, when Brandon Kile took his match by the largest margin of any Eagle wrestler.
Chance Karst, at 141, held No. 7 Eduardo Penha to an 8-2 decision.
Chase Clasen and Jake Otuafi, at 149 and 157 pounds, took decisive victories to even the dual at 9-9 through the midpoint.
CMU’s Jason Buhr, a two-time national qualifer at 165, scored a 4-2 win over CSC’s Tate Allison, and the Mavericks’ Seth Lathem and Nolan Krone decided the meet with tech falls.
Eagles Wade French, at 197 pounds, and Rulon Taylor, at 285, were victorious in the final two bouts of the evening.
Chadron State concludes its home meet schedule on Friday at 6 p.m., taking on No. 19 Western Colorado.
