“The hammer walk or ringing the bell.” 4 Downs with CSC linebacker Tyler Lewis

With a few days left of “summer” for the guys at the RMAC Kickoff in Colorado Springs we wanted to have a little fun with Jake Geil, Tyler Lewis, Kyle Temple and Coach Jay Long and went “4 Downs” with each of them to learn a little more about their personalities and thoughts on some fun topics.

4 Downs with Chadron State junior linebacker Tyler Lewis

  • 1st Down: The nickname “Gator” – how’d that come about?

Tyler: “I wish I had a cool story for you, I’ve been trying to come up with something, but it just happened.  No one really knows the origin of it. Those seniors when I came in I think kind of came up with it.  It’s either that or Coach Jers.  I wish I had a better answer, everyone always asks me.”

  • 2nd Down: You always find the football and the end zone. Three times you’ve scored touchdowns.  How do you have such a great nose for the football and the endzone?

Tyler:  “I’m just in the right place at the right time.  If you put yourself in the right place, big things are going to happen for you. Whether it’s sacks, touchdowns, whatever it is, just being right with the scheme and being in the right place at the right time.”

  • 3rd Down: What guys, coaches, teams or linebackers in the NFL do you look up to or follow to try to model your game after?

Tyler: “One of my favorite linebackers to watch is Sean Lee for the Dallas Cowboys.  He was injured last season, but he works hard.  He’s not the biggest guy out there but works hard.  He’s fast, physical and assignment perfect.  He’s always there right in the running back’s face, whoever’s face, making tackles, making big plays for them.”

  • 4th Down: What is your favorite Chadron State football gameday tradition?

Tyler: “Has to be either the hammer walk or ringing the bell on the way out to the field.  It’s just something about it.”
