In five Saturdays Chadron State will go to work on breaking back in to the top three of the RMAC football standings.
The preseason coaches poll has three familiar teams at the top that have been very successful in recent years: CSU-Pueblo followed by Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines. Dixie State checks in at four followed by the Eagles.
While the poll acts as a conversation starter for fans before kickoff, CSC Head Coach Jay Long says it’s all about what happens when the games get going in September that really matters.

The travel schedule sets up nicely for CSC with shorter road trips, especially after navigating the gauntlet of a three-game stretch spanning more than 6,000 bus miles last fall. The Eagles longest road trips will be to Grand Junction to face Mesa, and five miles shorter to Alamosa for Adams State. But with CSC having to face the preseason top three all on the road the Eagles will be tested trying to break into that top trio.
Chadron State was represented by senior center and all-conference preseason pick Jake Geil, senior defensive lineman Kyle Temple, and junior linebacker Tyler Lewis at the RMAC Kickoff event in Colorado Springs Monday. Coach Long explains why he chose that group to showcase the Eagles.

Several players stayed over the summer in Chadron to work and prepare in the offseason. The team officially reports for dorm check-in on Friday. Equipment will be distributed and meetings held Saturday with the first practice Monday afternoon.
Coach Long talks about what his assignment was to the team in the offseason and expectations on both sides of the ball.
We will have more coverage throughout fall camp here on the Panhandle Post website and in our morning sports reports on KQSK, KAAQ and KCNB.
