Recycling in Alliance is down.
Statistics provided by Keep Alliance Beautiful reveals that in April, amounts dropped by 37,186 pounds compared to April of 2013. May showed a drop of 27,836 pounds compared to last May.
The decline may be temporary. In June, the commodity volumes rose by 3,663 pounds over last year’s 41,558 pounds.
KAB Executive Director Deb Dopheide says poor weather was probably a factor during April and May.
“Results for the first half of the year have been disappointing, she said. “Volumes have dropped 65,056 pounds or 32.5 tons in a year. This is a significant drop. The cost of recycling has definitely gone up with the untimely loss of our contract with ARK, however, if recycling is important to the community, the volumes should rise with the nicer weather.”
