The city of Chadron today is auctioning off 10-acres of city-owned land on East Niobrara. Sealed bids with a minimum price of $14,500 for each of the 10 roughly equal-sized lots will be opened at 4 pm with oral bids to follow.
The city acquired the land most of a decade ago for nearly $30,000 in unpaid street assessments, and is spending $189,000 to bring sewer service to the land and privately-owned property to the north that might be developed in the future.
Any lots not sold today at the auction would remain available for purchase at the minimum price for10 months, at which point the council will review the situation. The council will review and the auction results in its regular session tonight at 6:00.
