2 ROUNDS DONE AT CNFR, ALL 3 EAGLES SITTING IN TOP 10

The second round of competition is over at the 2013 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, with tonight the first of the 4 evening sessions making up the third round.

The top 12 competitors in each event at the end of three rounds of competition will advance to Saturday’s finals or short go-round, and all 3 of the Chadron State College competitors is in the top 12 after 2 rounds.

Senior Mitch McAdow is 4th in tie-down roping after finishing 9th in the 1st round and 10th in the 2nd with a combined 19.7. His third round is tonight.

In goat-tying, junior Shelby Winchell, tied for 1st after the first round, is now tied for 3rd after tying for 15th on the day, while senior Amy Tierney stayed 7th overall with a tie for 11th on the day.

Tierney, who has a combined time of 13.1, has her third go-round Thursday night while Winchell, at 12.9, goes Friday night. Winchell is also in breakaway roping, but is one of 15 cowgirls in the event not to score in either round. Her last round is tonight.

David Hinman of Hay Springs and Northeast Junior College had a tough 2nd round. Tied for 1st after the opening round, he had the 2nd-slowest time of the day to place 30th and slip to 14th overall at 15.9. Hinman’s 3rd round is Friday night.

Eastern Wyoming’s two team roping duos had great second rounds and sit in the Top 5. Derek Weinreis and Levi O’Keeffe were 3rd today and sit 2nd after 2 rounds at 13.5 while Troy Wilcox and Cotey Hanson are 4th at 16.1 after placing 5th. Hanson and Wilcox have their 3rd round tomorrow while O’Keeffe and Weinreis go again Friday.

Wilcox is also in tie-down roping and steer wrestling…and is 18th in both after sitting 22nd in both after the first round. He finishes in steer wrestling tonight and tie-down on Thursday and EWC’s Dustin Daily has failed to scores in either rounds of tie-down roping. His last round is Friday.

Joey Painter of Black Hills State…the defending breakaway roping champion who also qualified this year in goat-tying…continued to struggle in the 2nd round of both.

Painter again had no score in breakaway roping and had the 2nd-slowest time in goat-tying after being one of just 2 cowgirls not score in the first round. Her final rounds are Thursday in breakaway and Friday in goats.

BHSU freshman teammates Hallie Fulton and Billie Miller sit 15th and 37th, respectively, in goat-tying. Both have their 3rd rounds on Friday. Lindsey Goulet is 40th in barrel racing with her 3rd round Thursday, and Wyatt Treeby is 20th in tie-down roping and goes again Friday.

BHSU steer wrestler Sam Olson, who had a no-score in the first go-round, kept his outside hopes of reaching the top 12 and the finals by placing 5th in the 2nd go-round and sits 24th as only 21 cowboys scored in both rounds. His 3rd round is tonight.

Chandler Markel of Scottsbluff and the University of Wyoming was 12th on the day in barrel racing with a time of 14.25, but is 32nd overall at 29.64. She finishes up Thursday.
